Domain Security and Theft Protection at 1HostUnitedKingdom

1HostUnitedKingdom’s top priority is to ensure that your domain names are protected from unauthorized changes and domain theft at all times. Our domain management system is designed to offer the highest level security features available in the domain industry. We have implemented a five step domain theft protection process and as a result, 1HostUnitedKingdom has never lost a domain name to theft since our existence in 1999. However, a domain is only as secure as the administrator that’s maintaining the domain, so we’ve included some tips on how to protect your domain names:

Domain Account Number, Login Name & Password

Keep your domain account number, login name, and password secret at all times. The domain account password is between 6 -16 characters and is set by the domain owner at the time the account is created. If you forgot your password and would like to have your password sent to you via e-mail then click here to retrieve your domain account password. To increase domain security log into your domain account and update the account password on a regular basis in the customer settings area of your account control panel. 1HostUnitedKingdom is a secure site and all critical account security information is encrypted, including credit card information

Additionally, choose a hard to guess password that is at least 8 characters long using both alpha and numeric characters. Do not use the domain account number or any personal information as a part of the password. Use upper case and lower case letters as well as numbers. 1HostUnitedKingdom recommends that you change your password on a regular basis to further enhance the domain security of your account.

Domain Account Contact’s E-mail Address

The domain account contact’s e-mail address is very important since this e-mail address has control over all the domain names in the account, including changing the ownership. Don't allow others to be the admin contact for your domain names in your account (such as your web hosting company). Don't use an insecure e-mail account (the e-mail account should also have a “strong” password). Don't use insecure free e-mail services such as Hotmail.

Locking Domain Names

The 1HostUnitedKingdom domain management system locks ever domain name both at the registrar level and at the registry by default. This will prevent any unauthorized domain transfers to other registrars. An incorrect or inadvertent request could transfer the domain if the domain is not locked. Our system automatically unlocks and locks your domains during certain domain management changes such as changes to DNS, registering DNS or using the IP manager, etc. The only other time your domains would be unlocked is if you intend to transfer your domains away from 1HostUnitedKingdom, at which time you must follow our domain transfer out policy and process.

Because we keep your domains locked at all times, domain theft is not possible. There is no charge to secure this level of theft protection for your domains at 1HostUnitedKingdom. 1HostUnitedKingdom also recommends that you change your password on a regular basis to further enhance the domain security of your account.

NOTE: Automatic domain locking also prevents changes to the DNS Name Servers at the registry. This means domain names cannot be moved to a new web hosting service without your authority.

Email Verification

When your account is set to the highest security setting, 1HostUnitedKingdom will send a verification email to the admin email of record each time you request critical changes to your account such as a change to your DNS, registrant and contact changes, auto-renew settings, URL Forwarding, etc. These are considered critical changes because they could effect where domain traffic goes, if ownership changes, and if you intend to transfer your domain out of your account for any reason. In order for any of these changes to be approved, you must respond to the 1HostUnitedKingdom system email you will receive.

Executive and Staff Review

1HostUnitedKingdom is the only domain registrar that provides an executive and staff review of your transfer out requests to ensure their legitimacy and validity. If we see a transfer out request to another domain registrar, we may contact you to verify your request and intent. 1HostUnitedKingdom does this as an extra and added theft protection to ensure that your domains remain safe and secure at all times.
